Fire Flower (and family)
Final design: Fire Flower
First base: Icy
I saw some potential in the fun, julian curves in the background and the funnels tucking into the design from either side.
Second base: Sheet
Found a better set of colors, and did a little parameter tuning to get a more dynamic design.
Third base: Wall
Further parameter tweaking and a few new transformations revealed this central orb with really fun texturing around the edges. Feels like a psychedelic goat's eye to me. The overlapped circles in the border aren't as appealing as I'd like
This is a breakdown I like to do from time to time. At the top is a new design, and below are a few of the steps I took along the way to get to it. This isn't a tutorial, just a look behind the scenes. A big part of being a fractal artist is finding the balance between recognizing beauty and knowing how to refine it. If you stop as soon as you find something kind of cool, you'll miss the really great stuff that you can get to if you push the design further. At the same time, you have to learn when to stop. Tinker for too long and you'll get stuck in endless indecision and never feel finished.
